"Don't you ever get out of this shop?" Skimming her fingers over the latest of many metal carvings, she looked over to watch what would be the successor.
"I had twenty years to catch up on and a living to make." Getting up from her kneeling position next to the soulforge, she smacked it with the back of her closed hand. "Then there's this. Magic." Paytience couldn't tell if Mesa was about to spit or swallow her own tongue. "On top of having to relearn everything I know, I've wound up trying to learn everything out of a Disney movie.
"Disney?" Fawn's repeat of the word managed to get a frustrated sigh as Mesa threw her head back and all but howled. "Nice to see you've mastered imitation of the wolf."
Instead of explaining, Mesa tilted her head forward again and shook it. The ponytail whipped around, strands of brown catching at the corner of her lips. "Shouldn' t you be taking a long walk off a short pier somewhere?"
Laughing, Fawn walked across to the carpenters bench and turned to rest against it, her palms cupping the edge. "If you don't like the job, why are you doing it?"
Mesa threw the make-shift calipers down. "There isn't any of this I can't do. And I didn't say I didn't like it. It's just a lot to take in. God, do you piss off everyone this way?"
Fawn gave a non-commital shrug. "Probably."
"That doesn't surprise me. There should be a charity for the people you've annoyed."
"Oh, I promise they generally get paid back in some way.. or another." The smirk clearly evident on her face. "Did you get the measurements I wanted?"
"Yup. Your friend Castle was there. Did you visit with the monk yet?" Fawn nodded as Mesa returned to her metal shaving.
"Soon."
"And what about Reinhardt." It was Fawn's turn to let out an exasperated sigh.
"That good eh?"
"There's a trip coming up soon. Hopefully that will be the end of it. At least the monk seems to think so."
"And you agree?"
"I don't have a reason not to. Einhildur seems to know what he's doing, even if he is reclusive about it."
"Must be nice to have people actually leave you alone to work." Her tone edged with an icy lilt.
"Why was Castle there? Did you invite him?"
Rolling her eyes, "Oh yeah, I walked right up to his door and asked him to help me count." She laughed at that, they both knew better. He walked into the pits while I was working. Now, if you don't mind..." Mesa pointed to the doorway even as she reached to open one of the wooden chests.
Chuckling, Fawn obliged as the door let out a thud when it closed behind her.
