Silenus sat silently as the monk sharpened his blade. He had been through too much over the past moons and was numb to the pain. All he wanted was to tend his vines and share good wine with his new friends. If they would never let him live in peace, he simply wished for a quick end.
The door crashed open and before Silenus could detect any movement, his guard lay dead, his throat ripped out and his body scorched beyond recognition.
A hooded figure stood in the doorway... electricity crackling from his fingertips and a large cu at his side.
"Come quickly!", he commanded, as he turned and left the room.
Silenus could not see his face, but there was something in the tone of his voice. A tone that expected obedience, yet somehow sounded familiar.
Silenus recoiled in horror as he stepped into the next room....8 monks lay dead, each with chunks of flesh missing and burnt equally bad as his guard.
"How?", Silenus wondered.. he had heard no sound, no fighting, nothing...yet the evidence was before him.
He followed the hooded figure down the hallway and through a series of tunnels, still terrified at the carnage. As they reached the final door, the man stopped, without turning, he addressed Silenus "Although we are in the Abbey, the monks who held you do not answer to the new Abbot or the governor of Yew. Do not blame them for your distress"
He continued, "I am sorry you have once again been caught in the middle. They wanted to find me and now they have. It is my battle and me they want. This is not your fight."
Before the man could open the door, a monk threw himself at him swinging a large blade. The man dodged just in time avoiding the knife while his hood was ripped away from his head. His loyal cu made quick work of his assailant.
As he pulled his hood back over his head, Silenus stared in disbelief.
"You...", he said, "all this time....well they were looking...in plain sight..."
The hooded figure opened the final door, ushered Silenus out saying only "I was never here and you never saw me" before disappearing into the wood and leaving Silenus outside the Warden's office.
