"Greetings your Excellency,
I need to inform you about a visit and conversation I had with the Abbot of Empath Abbey. It regards a service that he claims was interrupted and ended with physical violence.
He came to me, quite distraught and out of breath, evidently from running a long ways, to report these matters. By his speech and demeanor, I am certain he was not inventing things; at least he surely believed it.
He claims that he and others of his entourage, Covians, were in the process of "marking" an elf who had confessed sins. I asked him how this was accomplished and he indicated it was his torch. Clearly it is a burn mark, though he did not say where it would be made. As this transpired, he claims, forces from Trinsic, led by Governor Chanticleer, assaulted members of his enclave without warning nor provocation. A number of them were beaten and injured.
He also showed me a contract with an elf named Silenus, which I have in my possession, that indicated the elf signed over the Winery and surrounding lands to the Empath Abbey of which he, the Abbot, oversees (by his own proclamation it seems as I can find no record of that transferral anywhere). This means the Abbey now owns all of that property. The odd thing is that the contract was signed with a bloody handprint, again, seemingly, that of the elf.
The Abbot asked me to protect him. I offered him the solace of Glengarry as he was afraid to return to the Abbey, believing he is the target of those who attacked at the service.
I wish to meet with you and show you this contract. By all appearances, it is valid. I have filed it safely. We should do this before the Governors' meeting tomorrow night that we may be prepared fully to discuss these matters with those who seek clarification, as do we.
I await your summons,
Your Servant,
Warden-Captain Itannar Darkanor"
(the missive is sealed and hand delivered to the Governor by Warden Jared)
