Summary: The Emissary of the mysterious Voice puts into motion a plan to locate and slay Michael Mitre, the former Keeper of the Rangers Guild of Skara Brae, whom the Voice has been pursuing for years. At the same time, Mitre and his pregnant lover Mylar are faced with a choice about their future and that of their unborn child that will determine whether Mitre survives.
11/4/2017:
One night at the Keg and Anchor, Lord Everett de Hugh of the Trinsic Council approached those present, including "John" (Chanticleer), Jolicia, Kalai Terelyn, Mason Caine of Cove, and Sergio Jarrett, requesting a favor from them. Recently, Bethany Holland, the daughter of a prestigious Trinsic noble family, had fled the city to marry an unsavory character she met in Papua, and they were staying somewhere in Moonglow. Lord de Hugh needed them to locate Bethany there and persuade her to come home.
The small group traveled to Moonglow and found Bethany in hiding with her betrothed, the reprobate Oswin Stower of the infamous Stower family, who was older than the young noblewoman by at least a decade. Eventually, they succeeded in convincing Bethany to leave him and return to her parents. During the conversation, Oswin also revealed that the leather garbed scouts who have been hunting him for the past year and a half were employed by the Camorra, an old social club made up of noble families, mostly from Nujel’m and Magincia.
11/5/2017:
In Ter Mur, the fugitive Michael Mitre and his pregnant lover, Mylar Tyrmitore, met with Erollisi Stower, their former comrade from the Rangers Guild of Skara Brae. Under Mitre's manipulations, Erollisi had become the head of the Stower family, and she was currently serving as a squire in the Holy Fist of Trinsic.
They discussed recent news, including how a few months ago, the Holy Fist recently assisted her cousin Colin Stark in Khaldun and learned that the otherworldly Voice Colin was investigating had sent an unknown Emissary to their world. Mitre and Mylar told Erollisi that they were informed about this by the mysterious robed-man who has been helping them to hide. They also advised her of Mylar's pregnancy, and their benefactor's offer to help her and their unborn child escape this world and troubles that might soon occur.
When Erollisi asked to speak with the robed-man directly, Mitre and Mylar led her to the spot they usually spoke, atop Mount Sho in Tokuno. Coincidentally, he was already waiting there for them. During the ensuing conversation, he mentioned his opposition to the Voice, and that he did not know what form the Emissary might take, but there were certain things he could not reveal in order to preserve a balance between both sides. The robed-man then asked Mylar if she had decided whether to accept his offer of sanctuary on another world, and she said that she would stay. But Erollisi urged her to go, and Mitre indicated that he preferred she be safe, so she changed her mind. Their benefactor then told her to prepare herself for her departure and return there within a week's time.
11/9/2017:
After attending a Giving of Thanks ceremony in Jhelom organized by Enoch, head of the publicly-accepted faction of the Broken Ankh, Mylar met privately with Tobias Cardont and Tserim Arryth, her old comrades from the now disbanded Rangers of Spiritwood order, in Spiritwood. As they discussed the past conflicts and problems that had tested their friendships, Mylar mentioned she had originally intended to say her good-byes. However, a random encounter in Trinic with Ezekial Roberts ("Zachary Crowley") of the Holy Fist convinced her to change her mind about the robed-man's offer to escape to another world. Instead, she would stay by Mitre's sied and fight the Voice, its Emissary, and whatever other forces might be hunting him. Because too much was at stake.
11/10/2017:
During her weeks in Trinsic, Jolicia had grown intimate with Sergio Jarrett of the Holy Fist. His brother Rhys Jarrett was a member of Rangers of Spiritwood who later joined the Rangers Guild of Skara Brae. Michael Mitre executed Rhys for aiding his former comrades against the Rangers Guild. One night, Jolicia raised the idea of locating the fugitive Mitre through Mylar, who was not similarly protected by magics that prevented her from being tracked, and "John" offered to help them. Later that evening, the ranger Lennox "Lux" Mitchell passed through Trinsic and mentioned that while wandering Spiritwood, she noticed that an abandoned house, which Sergio recognized as having once belonged to Mylar, was visited recently, as someone had tended to the garden there.
