Jolicia sat cross-legged at the Shrine of Sacrifice, tracing a small stick through the pool of blood that poured from the Ankh. She was attempting to refocus after the events of the last few days, but as she played through things, it was becoming increasingly difficult. The mantra Judas had taught her kept slipping her mind, so instead she just closed her eyes.

Five days ago, they had learned of Elerius' death. No, not death... murder. Then the day after, Judas spoke with Aingeal. Jolicia hadn't arrived until they were in the middle of their conversation, but had chosen to sit off to the side and remain silent. She didn't want to argue with Judas again, and he sounded like he had already decided to support Aingeal unconditionally. Jolicia couldn't though. All she could feel was anger and betrayal... that she had been lied to, again. And speaking to Judas about it later that evening went nowhere.

Three days ago, Judas had informed her of a visitor to the Salty Dog. That vile woman, Dezera Blackwell, was poking around and asking about the incident in Vesper several months ago. Worse, she was doing this for Renthar; a man that Jolicia knew couldn't be trusted. To top it all off, someone that Judas wouldn't name was dim-witted enough to mention that "Claudia" may have been the woman involved. Her mind reeled at the thought, wondering what Renthar was up to since he would surely remember that Judas had called himself "Claudia" during the time he was under Garrott's curse that transformed him into a woman.
Later at their home, Jolicia sat in the small tub in the bedroom while Judas sat on the edge behind her, rubbing her shoulders and neck in an attempt to get her to relax. She brought her knees up against her chest and spoke quietly, "Why... why does this happen to us?"
He kept massaging as the spoke, calmer than the previous night as Jolicia kept questioning everything. "It shouldn't be this difficult ... But, we try to do things right and it seems like we're the ones having to fight all the time ..." In his usual fashion, Judas had a rebuttal for everything. On the verge of defeat, she sighed and tilted her head back to look up at him, "What... about running?"

Two days ago, Jolicia had been trying to not think about things as they ventured to the Salty Dog. But it seemed the fates were aligned against them as the door opened and the vampire Beatrice walked through. This was one item that she refused to deal with, while as usual Judas followed the monster to see what it wanted.
Jolicia had stepped outside to compose herself. Upon re-entering, she found Judas holding a sword and yelling at Beatrice about Anna. She followed them outside to watch from a distance, but Judas was getting nowhere. This was one vampire that was not all there so Jolicia decided to approach and moved next to Judas. Beatrice looked her over a moment, "Fire woman." With the recognition came the answer Judas wanted.
While they found Anna alive and still human, she had been badly beaten while held captive by Beatrice. After much discussion, they took her to the healers in Trinsic to be cared for properly. All the while, she tried to drown out the frustration of this new trouble with a bottle of liquor. But at least with Anna, there had been no deception involved.
An already stressful evening became more so when they finally sat down to talk to Minalan and Aingeal. The first words out of Minalan's mouth soured Jolicia's mood. "Before I left, I entrusted Elerius to your care." She wondered if he was really trying to shift the blame. Jolicia wanted to exploded at both of them, but for Judas's sake she tried her best to just listen.
She became more and more frustrated as Minalan spoke, saying all the things that Judas would want to hear. Avoiding what he did not wish to answer. Jolicia finally had heard enough and asked, "Why should we believe you?"

Slowly, Jolicia opened her eyes and looked around the Shrine, listening to her surroundings. How can I trust any of them, she wondered. The answer was simple -- she couldn't. The only one she could was Judas. There was a feeling in the pit of her stomach that there was more trouble to come, and that they would have to work together to survive. She would be there to support Judas, but if the worse came to pass, there was always escape.
