A relic of a bygone era, created shortly after the shattering the Ostima Cortensis are three books. Each book looks identical to the others, A drab unassuming cover, a secure binding, and tidy lettering on a rather small tome. The book itself doesn't seem like much but that was by design.
The Ostima Cortensis are books that only the foolish, reckless, or ignorant read without weighing the cost. It is a book that reads the Reader, taking and copying any knowledge of Magical rituals and devices its current reader may know about while giving information it has that the reader wants to know or in the case of the ignorant, thinks the book is about.
Each of the Ostima Cortensis holds it's own set of ever-growing magical knowledge, the books holding everything from the most mundane understandings of magic to the darkest rituals. The early use of the books was considered a point of pride by many scholars, considering it something like publishing a thesis of their knowledge to that point in time, one of the books was held in the early Moonglow lyceum and was read by each headmaster at the end of their life to ensure all their knowledge was saved. The term Ostima Cortensis is still used in some mage circles to mean "Common Knowledge" from this practice rather than citing a source that most reading the material would already know, despite many mages now not knowing that it is actually a Tome.
However, the books that started as a way to accrue knowledge of lifetimes took more on a life of its own as it found it's way into the hands of dark sorcerers and necromancers. The Tomes collected Magical Knowledge indiscriminately, leading them to become both powerful tools for those wishing to learn forbidden magics and liabilities for those who wanted to keep secrets.
The books have changed hands hundreds if not thousands of times over the course of their life ever collecting the knowledge of those who dare read their pages.
The Ostima Cortensis have been lost to time. Any Records of the actual books being scrubbed from the Lyceum centuries ago. The Ostima Cortensis' reality only known to those that tread in the deepest of Magicks.
