Physical Description:
Once a well groomed young man he has grown into a hardened man with a long beard and long hair. His beard is tied into one braid to keep it together. His long hair is tired back around a small carved stick to keep it out of his eyes. With all his hair he looks like a lion.
His ringmail armor is of a plain design but well crafted. He wears a wolf pelt over his shoulders, the wolf head hangs over his left shoulder. Hidden within the wolf head even from Leo is a communication crystal that is always listening. A loose chailmail coif hangs around his neck.
The green vest he wears over his armor bears an embroidered sigil of a lion swolloing a sun. He wears a thick wool kilt to muffle the sound of his armor. His boots are made of thick leather.
A pair of skinning knives rest on his belt. A light ornate axe is usually in hand and a crossbow is slung over his shoulder. He stores his bolts in the fronts of his boots. Strapped along the right side of his pack is a wooden sword. When fighting men he will only use the wooden sword.
In his pack is a pair of orange pants that he wears when cleaning or mending his other clothes and armor. A small hand written Book of Chivalry of his adoptive father with additional notes discussing the passages and spells. A small replica scroll of valiant commendation with Leo's name is tucked into the pages. The book is wrapped with a sash of the Skara Brea Ranger's Guild. There is a small pouch with some salted rabbit meat. A bundle of about 30" of medium rope. A flint. A few potions bandages and herbs for healing. Rolled on top of the pack is his bedroll.
Often following him is a sturdy brown pack horse. It has a white nose. The saddle is not designed for riding but it is rather more of a harness to drag lumber or a sled of lumber. There are a few tools stuffed into the saddlebags on the side of the saddle.
Rumors:
He killed a fellow Ranger of Spiritwood.
Brief History:
Leo was born in 362 to a refugee from old Magincia named Juna Mune. She had found work in Trammel Britain in the library. Before coming to Britain she had been the apprentice to a powerful of mage of old Maginicia. before she was nearly killed during its invasion when she was just a teenager. After her injury she lost the ability to use magic as blackrock had been embedded into her flesh. Even other mages had trouble casting spells near her. She used her time in the library to research her condition. By the year 374 when Leo was 13 Juna found what she thought might be a cure. She left her young son with a friend Allen Klawstar expecting to return a few week later. She never did.
In Juna's absence Allen raised Leo as his own. by his late teens and early twenties Allen had too much of an independent streak in him to conform to Allens ridgid ways as a paladin. Leo longed to be a ranger. He enjoyed the solitude and genuinely wanted to help those in need. While he may have had the heart of a ranger he didn't understand how to become a ranger. Or how to make money as a ranger. So he took up a job for the local carpenter and became a lumberjack. He became quite good but he was limited in the amount of wood he could gather near the city of Britain. Not to mention his buyers often sought rarer woods from which to carve that only grew in the deeps forests..
He ventured further and further out into the wilds of Britannia. His ambitions of becoming a ranger became a lifestyle and he had to fend for himself. He had to learn how to hunt with a bow. He learned the anatomy of the woodland animals he hunted for himself so as to be a more efficient hunter. He trained his body to swing his axe fast and hard.
His 20's were spent at Lightbring Court with his mentor Allen in the winters. And the rest of the year he would gather his lumber to trade from Britain to Yew to Skara Brae. He even ventured down to the jungles south of Trinsic. He spent very little of his gold and saved most of it. It was during this time that Allen found his father, Verbals, had been turned to vampirism. Allen enlisted Leo's help to distract Verbal's Orc bodyguard while Allen dealt with his father. Although Brok'orba escaped Verbals was defeated. Leo would continue to search for the black Orc for years to come.
By his early 30's he had saved up enough gold to modestly support himself for some time. With this in mind he decided to put his skills to good use and moved to Skara Brae. He patrolled the woods along the King's Road and even successfully helped a few travelers in need. Still he felt as if he lacked direction and was only minimally useful to the cause of the greater good. He wanted to be apart of something bigger.
He had heard rumors that the Rangers of Spiritwood were having issues and that the famous Ranger's Guild of Skara Brae would be picking up some of the slack. Leo felt this was a good opportunity to sign up. Days later he ran into Michael Mitre, the Keeper of the Ranger's Guild. They discussed what was expected of being in the Ranger's Guild. A few days passed and Leo was given his uniform.
Leo sometimes felt the Ranger's Guild operated too much like a town guard and often missed scheduled hunts at his mentor's request. Allen was getting older and weaker, but had gained ground on an investigation that he had been following most of his life. Allen couldn't let it slip away and needed Leo. Leo felt he owed a debt to Allen. Again sighting of Brok'orba were being reported.
Leo's absences put him at odds with his fellow Rangers but he eventually proved himself and made rank becoming a Watcher. It wasn't long after Leo found a trail he believed belonged to the black orc. He followed it to a ramshackle camp where the orcs were sitting eating the raw corpse of a horse. A young elf girl was tied to a tree, perhaps for a later snack or worse. Leo felt he was being watched, being tested, but still had to save the girl. He had no time to check his surroundings like a good ranger would. He shot a deer in the distance, wounding it. It's cries caught the attention of the old orc. After Brok'orba lumbered off to his next meal Leo sprinted to the girl. The chop of his axe into the tree to cut the ropes alereted Brok'orba of his intruder. The girl managed to run until she was struck with Brok'orba's club that was nearly the size of her. Brok'orba had thrown it across the camp. Leo was grabbed by Brok'orba by the arm and thrown like a rag doll. Leo steadied himself and fired three shots from his bow before the pain set in. The arrows hit hard enough to pin the orc to a tree. Leo stood up and picked up the barely conscious girl with his non injured arm.
Leo got the girl to the healers in Skara. They reset her bones and gave her a tonic made mostly of a mandrake root concentrate to alleviate any swelling. They looked over Leo's arm. It had been torn from the socket. They popped it back into place and tied it tight to his body with a sling. Leo brought the girl back to his cabin while she continued to heal. The tonic she was given kept her unconscious for most of the day. Over the following weeks Leo got to know the girl. She said her name was Tanoh Sendula and she lived off the land. Leo was quite smitten with her. She even made him a hood made of a wolf's pelt which he now treasures. Leo returned to his normal patrols and duties as a ranger albeit with a machete and crossbow that could be used with one arm while is left arm healed.
His left arm never healed quite right and was usually quite stiff. Still Leo went back to using a full sized axe but kept the crossbow. One night Mitre ordered Leo to confront a druid Cian and a traitorous faction of the rangers. In doing so Leo aided in the murder of Katalin Blackwell. Leo was arrested soon after. While locked up he learned that he was being used. Before Leo's trial Allen was killed in battle. During his trial Leo plead guilty and was exiled to the Shrine of Spirituality. When the exile was lifted Leo decided to go on a pilgrimage to the other Shrines. Now his pilgrimage is over and he has committed himself to staying neutral and working alone.
