I know it'll have been a few weeks since you last saw me when you receive this, mail is slow. My search has gone better than expected. After only two nights in skara brae I found a man who claims to know Rhys and as it turns out he's not dead. I made sure it wasn't some necromancer trick, the man turned out to be a ranger, I guess they are the town guard of this island because I saw no actual guards. The place is pretty sleepy, they don't even have snakes and the biggest threat I've seen was a rogue mongbat. The rangers I've met claimed to protect the town and that there are many dangers, but looking around it seems the island is perfectly peaceful.
Though you probably want to hear about Rhys, it turns out he was in Tokuno the whole time, the man who found him in the ship wreck treated his injuries and Rhys decided to stay to rehabilitate. The man apparently taught him how to use a staff. Maybe leave that part out when you read this to dad you know how he is, you don't want to get him started on "Sissy weapons" and his whole rant about the only good weapon being a metal one. Rhys apparently joined these rangers a few years back, and he says he just forgot to write home, I'm not sure I believe him, he couldn't have been that busy this place is incredibly dull. Also, he changed the compulsive and loud brother I used to know seems to have turned into a quiet introvert, it's actually pretty disturbing I sat with him for a whole five minutes before anyone talked and I had to break the silence, something happened to him but I'm not sure what.
I've decided to stay for awhile, while it's not exactly a hot bed of danger I should probably meet his new friends and hopefully get him to actually write you. Also there are plenty beautiful women here maybe I'll meet the future Mrs. Jarrett I'm sure dad would be happy about that, he's been wanting a daughter for awhile now, can't say I'm ready to settle down though, don't read the last part to dad either.

It's been over a week since I last wrote, While I have time I don't really seem to have much to say about this place. It's dull, that's the least insulting way to put it. There seems to be very little crime, and the rangers don't seem to have any training regiment no exercises or practice to occupy their time. I watched Rhys sit under a tree for about three hours before I couldn't take it anymore, how do they stand living in this place, there is no great source of entertainment and very little work to be done. I guess thinking about it the healers are fairly busy and the craftsmen always have some form of work, but this doesn't seem to be a place for a man like me.
I shouldn't say there isn't anything going on. I did go to a meeting held by the rangers by their leader, it was a small group, they were working on displacing a villain from power. A man that seems to think he's above the law because his status as governor, some dissidents in Moonglow apparently had a plan that required some ingredients that were hard to get, so the group myself included went off to retrieve them. The first bits were just random magical machinery pieces, you know the ones Dad always talked about puzzling towers being built by cultists, it was rather easy and i found out that machines have fluids. The second part was some dragon blood from the underworld, that place where the peaceful gargoyles live, I learned they don't like being called demons even though that's what they are. The dragon had a horde of gold bigger than most dragons it was impressive, ultimately we destroyed it though. I hope the errands helped but I still don't understand the mainlanders insistence that they can't just arrest this man for all his crimes. From what I've heard he seems to be arresting people for imaginary crimes and they don't want to act like him, it's all a battle of taking the high ground instead of getting things done here.
Finally there is Rhys, he's changed. He's quiet and my conversations with him last hours. The problem is not much is said in those hours, do you remember Jasper after he got eaten by the Giant Sea Serpent, Rhys kind of has that same silent stare Jasper had after we cut him out. He will talk but seems to only give the minimum amount of effort to say what he wants, it's impossible to get any thing out of him that he doesn't want to reveal and I found a spell book in his bag. I learned he knows magic now apparently, dad's probably not going to find that appealing so keep it yourself. I learned that he refuses to kill anyone for any reason though, I thought about it for while and I guess I get it but it'd be such a pain to try allow all the evil that exists to just live on. I'm not exactly sure what he intends to do but these people he's with don't seem the type to not kill a convicted man.

A lot has happened since I last wrote. Skara brae has an infestation of lesser demons it seems, apparently they are called Poop-kah or something of the sort, it doesn't matter they are easy enough to dispatch and appear as talking animals. I mean I may not know everything but I know normal animals don't talk these demons aren't crafty in the slightest. This however is the brightest news I have the rest is nothing I'd wish on anyone especially my brother.
I've been told that one of Rhys' friends has been killed, not only that but by one of the men that was supposed to be his ally. I only knew her as a pretty mage girl, her name was apparently Katalin. Rhys took it hard, the look in his eyes has changed, he's not very tranquil anymore instead it feel like an intense hate, he hasn't started talking about it besides telling me her name and that it was a man named "Hawkins" fault. Though the death didn't only hit Rhys' hard, the other rangers I had a brief conversation with seemed down too, It's only natural when someone dies but it's made this town kind of unbearable. For one death to mean this much to so many people she must have been important. I'm not sure what Rhys will do but I saw him taking the hammer and nails from my pack the other night before wandering off, I don't think Rhys would have the stomach for it seeing as he left so early and never was around for all the drills and demostrations. Regardless I'll follow him and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid, this is a matter of justice not vengeance and I'm not sure if Rhys understands the difference.
With all the current activity I may need my weapon, I found a sword but it's not exactly a great fit and all I have is my knife. I have a feeling that a battle will happen soon in Skara brae and I'd like to be prepared.
