Mylar paced around the small room, lost in her thoughts. She had been confined to the Falconer’s Inn for nearly three days now while waiting questioning at the hands of the Guardians. It was hardly surprising to the young half-elf that she had only had two visitors, for she felt that she had betrayed her friends beyond forgiveness. She sorely wanted to make amends, but she had more than likely gone too far for that. They had already given her a second chance, and she had failed. And not simply failed, but lied to, hurt and disappointed them yet again. She also knew that, were her parents still alive, they too would be disappointed in her.
Sitting down on the bed, Mylar turned her attention to the future. If she were charged with a crime, she would more than likely be arrested and imprisoned. If released… At the very least she would be homeless again. The Rangers would more than likely want nothing more to do with her and her words, no matter how sincere and truthful, would mean nothing to them.
She also knew that she was the only one to blame for her current situation. It was her actions, and her choices that had led to this. She had allowed her emotions and naiveté to be played with time and time again despite the continual warnings of those that cared about her. It was her own insecurities that had caused her to trust in the kind words of a criminal, and her own fears that had caused her to lie repeatedly to her friends. As a result, she had lost everything she had ever wanted, and so much more.
Still barred from travelling without an escort, Mylar tucked her legs beneath her and knelt on the bed. Removing her ankh pendant, she held it in her hands and closed her golden eyes. Recalling what Eodain had taught her, she cleared her mind, slowed her breathing, and focused on her inner self, before softly beginning to chant the mantra “Amh”.
The road to redemption would be long and difficult, but so long as there was even one person who still believed in her, she would not give up. She would not fail again.
