"In the fullness of the World, there are Beasts and there are Men, and the All-Father won mastery over all Beasts before the First Dawning, as is well known to all. But know this: the line between Man and Beast is not so clear as it would seem, and there are men who have learned to cross it at their choosing."
What are Bear Kin
Though very similar to Lycan they prefer to be called Bear Kin, Meaning " a group of people related by blood." The Bear Kin like the Lycan is a more advanced species that, unlike the werewolves, can for the most part control their transformations. Blessed by their war god G'Harron, these Bear Kin have the ability to take the shape of the brown bear. Little is known of this rare race or of their god.
Who Is G'Harron
G'Harron or the Bear King whos name is not well known in the lands of Sosaria is a lesser god and takes position as the King of all bears and Bear Kin. G'Harron takes the form of a large light brown bear, who makes his home in the realm of the Lost Lands.
G'Harron posses the ability to transform those of worth into Bear Kin by blessing them with his mark or gift. G'Harron is a lesser god of war, and is honored by homage to sacred sites throughout his followers lives. And so, you may hear that a Bear Kin is "Off with G'Harron." G'Harrons will is passed through his gift making it possible for him to sway the minds of all those who were blessed with his mark.
The Test
Before being blessed by the mark of G'Harron, the person in position to become a Bear Kin is presented with three tests of virtue which will be presented to them randomly through out their lives.
1. Valor - “The courage to take actions in support of one’s convictions.”
2. Justice - “The truth of what is right and wrong in human action and the love of what is right.”
3. Honor - "The courage to defend and uphold the truth."
One of the first tests are usually presented to the person of position at puberty.
- Females Between the ages of twelve and fourteen .
- Males between the ages of fourteen and sixteen.
The test is only presented to those who have the proper blood line, even then it is possible that they would not be blessed enough to receive any of the tests should G'Harron find them unworthy at any time.
The Gift
The Gift or the Mark of G'Harron is received when a person in position has completed all three of their virtuous tests. Upon completion G'Harron places the mark upon the being accepting them into his embrace. It is only G'Harron himself who can bless a person in position of such right. Though the Gift can also be passed through two Bear Kin mating and creating a pure bred offspring, of true blood.
Abilities
Being blessed by a lesser god has its perks. Bear Kin have a heightened sense of smell, and their strength is compared to that of a stone golems. Their regeneration rate while wounded is much faster than that of a human, making the Bear Kin a hard target to put down. Combined with their thick bear hide it creates a deadly force of destruction.
It is rumored that Bear Kin share a mental link to one another allowing them to communicate to both bear and bear kin through thought.
Weakness'
Unlike your typical Lycan, the Bear Kin does not have a special item which will harm or even kill them. Though their hides are difficult to penetrate a simple arrow or blade placed in the correct spot would lay the Bear Kin to rest. Poisons of great strength have also been rumored to work, though to create a potion of such concentrated quantity is quite unlikely.
The Personality of a Bear
Just like any other creature every Bear Kin has their own individual personality. Though this is true the nature of the beast does sometimes present itself and take over any and all human instinct. For example most Bear Kin would rather keep to themselves then be social with other families.
Life Span
It is determined that Bear Kin live almost double the age of any normal human. That being said, if a human was sixty years of age, a Bear Kin Would only appear to be the age of thirty. The average life expectancy of any Bear Kin is roughly between the ages of one-hundred and one-hundred and sixty. ( In human years.)
