The Inquisitor had gathered all of his belongings and stood among the four monks who seemed to hang on his every word. The door to the room was closed, but earlier it seemed it had not been fully closed. Now it was locked and they stood together feeling quite safe from prying eyes and ears.
"I want to thank you four for being faithful to the task. I know there are others, but they are not here right now... having taken the body of our beloved Abbot away," stated the Inquisitor. He sat down, clearly exhausted by the last few days' events. "I am at the end of my tether. You all too, have suffered much in undeserved beatings at the hands of pagan brutes and thugs who only give lip service to the Virtues."
"The blessing of the Ankh" they said in near unison.
"Your faith will not go unrewarded! I promise you that these infidels will pay dearly for what they have done to us. I have employed, and will continue to employ, those whose skills are commensurate with the tasks necessary to implement true justice upon these knaves. You may even be asked to participate, but not just yet. Continue your tasks here as before. Obtain lists of heretics and defilers. Get them to me. We have no army; we can meet none of them on the field of battle, but that does not mean we cannot mete out justice upon them! We shall fight fire, with fire, with the eternal, everlasting, flame of righteous indignation! They will learn and they will suffer!"
"Your Grace, where may we find you?"
The Inquisitor hesitated. "I will not be long in any one place. I will find you. My first abode will be with my brother. He knows nothing of these matters and does not always share my zeal, but our blood is our bond and he will shield me from all tormentors. From there I shall formulate my plans. But first, we shall conduct a burial for our fallen leader, appropriate to the occasion."
"The blessing of the Ankh!"
"Indeed! So now I must depart. I am given to understand that the officers of Yew will come and seek entrance. Do not resist them. Ally with them. Acquiesce to them. Serve them as far as you may. We will learn their plans and continue to escape their nefarious ventures."
A booming sound resonates outside.
"I go now," he stated, collecting his personal effects. "The blessing of the Ankh and our sainted Abbot be upon thee all!" He made the sign of the Ankh and uttered the words of Sacred Journey.
