The looming threat of the curse and the mysterious Blackrock Altar led Captain Jassi Cowin to seek outside help in the form of the Rovers, a group of mercenaries known for their impressive naval skills. With Cove's residents at risk, Jassi sent a message to William Castle, leader of the Rovers, detailing the dire situation in Cove and pleading for assistance.
Thankfully, River, the current Captain of the Rovers, was sympathetic to Jassi's plight and agreed to help. Despite the inherent dangers of aiding the beleaguered town, River knew that the Rovers' expertise in seafaring could make all the difference in successfully evacuating Cove's frightened citizens.
To prepare, the Rovers quickly drafted plans to send ships to Cove and evacuate as many villagers as possible.
As the Rovers set their plan into action, River commanded the crew to speedily ready their ships to set sail to Cove.
The first ship, the Krakens Kiss, anchored down on the outskirts of Cove as planned, and the crew quickly prepared to unship the second vessel. The ship, navigated through the thick fog by Zarfu and commanded by River, finally reached the shore. Dervish, Big-Blue, Aaron, and River quickly reached out to the Cove townsfolk, assuring them that they were there to help.
The Rovers swiftly began to help the Cove citizens onto the ship, loading as many people as the ship could hold. Zarfu, meanwhile, scoured the town in search of any stray dogs. Eventually, he gathered a small group of four-legged friends and, after briefly tending to their wounds, led them onto the ship to safety.
As the Nightmare hovered over Cove, chaos and confusion ensued. Amidst the turmoil, Tebryn, a Drow donning black leather armor with purple trim, found himself in the midst of the town's evacuation. However, Tebryn did not let the pandemonium deter him. He quickly gathered his composure and set out to assist the Rovers, who had arrived to provide support.
Zarfu took notice of Tebryn and barked at him to quickly board the ship before succumbing to the dreadful Nightmare. Tebryn did not hesitate to take Zarfu's advice and promptly boarded the ship.
Confronted with the heightened peril of the curse, the Rovers worked with breakneck speed to evacuate everyone in need. With River at the helm, the ship was loaded with the frightened Cove citizens and the rescued dogs. As they pushed away from the dock, they made ready for the short journey to Minoc, where those who survived the curse could finally find sanctuary and respite.
As the Leviathan's Lash and its precious cargo cleared the outskirts of Cove, the tranquility of the sea surface was broken by an unnatural disturbance. The initially placid sea began churning and rippling in a way that suggested something very large and dangerous was lurking just beneath the surface.
Before long, a grotesque sea creature of indeterminate origin burst forth from the waves with a deafening roar. The creature was truly massive, at least twice the length of the ship. Its skin was slick and slimy and bore an intricate pattern of ridges and whorls reminiscent of some ancient, impossible code. Its clawed tentacles writhed and coiled and reached for the vessel with terrifying agility.
The crew of the Leviathan's Lash did not hesitate. River barked orders as the Rovers worked efficiently and effectively, sending bolts and other projectiles to match the creature's ferocity. Dervish and Big-Blue used their combat prowess to keep the creature at bay, holding out until Aaron could rig up a makeshift explosive to deter the creature.
Eventually, the combined efforts of the Rovers managed to create an opening in the creature's defences, at which point River expertly piloted the ship to safety, leaving the creature behind.
The creature's trail of destruction left no doubt that it was not of this world and that they had come perilously near to a disastrous outcome. But the Rovers had proven their valor, escaping with no casualties and once again the Cove citizens could breathe a sigh of relief - at least for the time being.
As the Leviathan's Lash arrived at the outskirts of Vesper, a hooded mage was waiting for them, having been informed by the Rovers of the imminent arrival of the Cove citizens. The mage guided them through a portal to the settlement, near the eastern edge of Minoc, where preparations had been made to receive the refugees from Cove.
Once they arrived, the people Cove were immediately provided with food, water and proper accommodations to suit their needs. The Rovers worked tirelessly to ensure that they were well-cared for and supported in their time of need.
In order to ensure the they had a voice and representation amongst the Rovers, the Rovers quickly chose a suitable representative from within their ranks to act as liaison between the townsfolk and the Rovers. The representative promised to serve those from Cove to the best of their ability, and the Rovers vowed to provide continuous support and assistance to them in the future.
Upon the arrival at the Settlement, Tebryn saw potential in the prospects that the Rovers could offer him. River took notice of Tebryn's eagerness and persuaded him to become a part of the mercenary group, a band of outcasts who found solace in working together as one. Drawn to the Rovers' cause, Tebryn determined that it offered him a chance to hone his own set of skills and fulfill his personal aspirations. Ultimately convinced of the Rovers' noble mission, he eagerly joined their ranks.
Though the threat of the curse still loomed, the Rovers and those from Cove knew for now they were safe from the Nightmare.
