He Raced as fast as he could, his feet bloodied pounding the earth beneath him as he ran. He tore through thick brambles as thorns tugged at his ragged clothes. More Scratches. More Blood. More Pain. His lungs burned with every breath.
He Struggled to breathe, begging to rest but for a moment. But the voice inside demanded he continue.
More Pain. More Blood. More…
A month Later;
The waters were eerily still at night. The surface was so undisturbed it was like dark glass mirroring the starlit skies above. The moon bathed everything in a cold silver light. William could not help but breathe in deeply for everything around him was calming and he wanted that feeling to fill him.
William carried with him a piece of an old navigation chart. Scrawled onto it was a rough, timeworn map of trade and shipping routes. The names of known places, and even a few secret ones. Crude drawings of clouds with faces marked the best lanes where the winds might bless a ship with speedy passage.
“River, it is here. This is it.” William announced, breaking the silence of the night.
“Getting’ Soft in yer old age, Bear Captain?” River grinned.
“I ain’t Soft.” William shouted as he spit a wad of phlegm onto the deck of their small ship. “This is where it will all start, where the gold finally falls where it should."

Far above, William could hear the call of an eagle gliding along the clouds. The eagle's voice was strong, confident, but not close enough to get in the way of William's own thoughts. It was a relief to feel this human.
The voice was never silent, but William knew not to be ungrateful. Even a moment’s reprieve was rare.
"I can hear myself breathe… for now, at least."
The murmurs would always start low, soft -- like leaves falling from a tree in autumn. Yet, they would grow quick, loud and obtrusive. Grumbles turned into snarls, mutters into roars, one swallowing another. The rage seized his mind, shattering his every thought. At first, the voice competed for dominance.
"Bear Captain." River shouted, gaining the attention of William.
"Yes, our settlement will be located here near the coastline with reasonable boat access; upon the ruins of Elven Song." William Explained.
The dwellings, storage facilities, and barn would be built with stone foundations and have walls made of stone, peat, sod turfs, wood, or a combination of these materials. Sheep, goats, cattle, pigs were plentiful toward the Northern glades of Minoc and could be easily domesticated to benefit the Rovers.
"I will push you the required resources and able hands to construct our new settlement." Instructed William.
William stabbed a finger down on the old map set on the table before them. He swept aside Tracing a route denoted in dull red ink and circling the edge of land in which he wanted the settlement to be built upon.
William straightened, finding some of the red ink had come off the map to stain his finger. He stared his quartermaster in the eye. His voice dropped, settling into the colder tone that meant the discussion had become sober.
"I leave this task to you River, do not disappoint."

Not disappointing William would be a hard feat to accomplish. River had been out of the game for a while now, and suddenly she's returned as Quartermaster. Fair, given her Captains disappearance for a while, she stepped up to run the crew in his absence. The crew respected her, she was fair, and now she has been tasked with building a settlement for the Rovers.
River stood in the ruined lands of elven song, deciding where everything should be before rounding into Minoc to hire workers. Careful to not reveal that just months before, they were attacked by members of the crew. Broken down crafters were the best workers, cheap labor. They got the job done. She watches the men swarm in, and begin their work. She carefully instructs and points out where things should be. Pausing only to address a dark figure, stood in the line of trees, watching.
“Ahoy dere! Rabbit? Tha' ye?” the small dark figure chuckles, “Its me, I see you falling back into your role just fine. Surprised the spawnling you spit out didn't ruin you.”
River grinned softly, “'es wit' 'im Da' nah. Ye prolleh should nay be runnin abou' 'ere till ah gots the place done. Ye done pissed lotta peoples off ye know.”
The shadow smirks under her hood, “You wanted me to stir chaos, and so I did. The crew had fun at least. Anyway, what is this place?”
River grins, “Bear Cap'n wanna settlement fer us. Nay yet sure what 'e gunna call the place. Bear Lan' or sommat...”
The figure nods her head, “That checks out. Seems you're almost done here. I'm going to be doing my own thing for a while. With William and yourself back, the Crew no longer needs me. Unless you need someone dead. Then you know how to get in contact with me. Good luck here, River.”
River smiles as the dark figure shifts into the darkness and vanishes. Under her breath she mutters, “Good luck ter ye too, Suka.”
*******************************************************************************
River spent weeks at the settlement site, The workers putting on final touches to the structures. With a sigh, she mutters to herself, “Gawds, 'e best nay wan' meh ter decorate... 'en agai' 'e gunna 'ave fur....e'erywhere...”
What seemed to have taken forever, the settlement was complete. Beautiful structures built, Hired hands paid, River scrawls out a letter to William.
“Bear Captain,
The settlement is complete, and ready for use. Bring in the Ships and crew.
River”

As a Minoc citizen, life had not always been easy. The town had struggled for years to make ends meet, with the local economy in a slump and the mines closed. But all of that had changed with the arrival of the Rovers.
It had been several months since the Rovers had come to Minoc, and the town had blossomed under their protection and guidance. The local mines had reopened, with the Rovers providing the funding and protection needed to make them profitable once again. This had brought an influx of new people to the town, all looking for work and wanting to be part of the prosperity that the Rovers had brought.
With the opening of the mines, the local economy had boomed. New shops and businesses had opened up, bringing new opportunities and a renewed sense of hope to the people of Minoc. The Rovers had even set up a headquarters in the town, providing security and support to the people.
As a result, the town was now bustling with activity. The streets were filled with pedestrians, and the market was abuzz with the sounds of commerce. The people of Minoc no longer had to worry about putting food on the table or providing for their families. They could now dream of a better future, one where they could live in comfort and security.
And all of this was thanks to the Rovers. They had come to Minoc with a mission to help the people, to bring prosperity and security to the town. And they had succeeded beyond anyone's expectations. The Rovers had proven themselves to be true allies of the people, and the citizens of Minoc were grateful for everything they had done.
